Create a College Tennis Recruiting Video

An important part of a good college tennis application is the recruiting video. Most college coaches want to see video footage even of players with outstanding results and rankings, because nobody likes to buy "the cat in the bag.

In this article you will learn how your application video should ideally look like.

Part 1: Personal Introduction

In the introduction you have the opportunity to introduce yourself briefly to the trainer. You should definitely mention your name, age and place of residence. Imagine that the trainer is standing in front of you and has asked you to describe yourself in max. 60 seconds.
Time: 60 seconds

Tip:
Some applicants show photos of their matches in the background during the performance and dazzle
himself (mostly just the head) speaking into the camera in the foreground. This goes down well with many trainers.

Part 2: Strokes

For the video, we need both close-ups of you and scenes from the full shot so that the trainer can see the whole place.
Ideally, you should film the long shots from behind and from a raised position.

1.Forehand and backhand through the middle
Position: Close-up of the T line/side line intersection
Length: 10 good strokes in one piece

2. Forehand cross
Position: Close-up of the baseline extension
Length: 10 good strokes in one piece

3. Forehand cross
Position: Total - behind the player with the whole field in view
Play: 4-5 strokes forehand cross, then winner down-the-line
Length: 5 successful rallies

4. Backhand cross
Position: Close-up of the baseline extension
Length: 10 good strokes in one piece

5. Backhand cross
Position: Total - behind the player with the whole field in view
Play: 4-5 strokes backhand cross, then winner down-the-line
Length: 5 successful rallies

6. Volleys through the middle
Position: Close-up diagonally from the front (on the other side)
Length: 10 good volleys in one piece

7. Volleys through the middle
Position: Close up from the side (at the same height)
Length: 10 good volleys in one piece

8. Volleys from behind
Position: Total - behind the player with the whole field in view (zoom)
Move: 2-3 volleys through the middle (move up), then volley winner
Length: 5 successful rallies

9. Serves
Position: Close-up of the baseline extension
Length: 4 good serves in one piece (not into the net!)

Part 3: Points

The most important part of the video. Please play a set to 4 with your playing partner. Make sure that you both play full. A good coach will see immediately when your opponent is letting you win.

Match Video

The match video is an additional video of one of your matches and is linked to your profile independently from the highlight video.
Many coaches still ask for an uncut set so that your whole game can be analyzed.

 Tip:
It should give the coach a realistic impression of your playing strength. Therefore, any mistakes you make should also be shown in the video. On the other hand, you should show your best side. If you don't play well on the day of the video shoot, try again on another day. It's worth it!
HERE you can find the video instructions with all the information as a brochure.
