SEVIS Record transfer

SEVIS Record transfer

If you have already studied at an American university and are transferring to another university, the SEVIS ID must be transferred so that you do not have to pay the 350$ SEVIS fee again.
There are 2 options for this

  1. If you are transferring directly from another university, ask the old university to transfer your SEVIS ID to the new university. This is called "SEVIS record transfer". The new university can then issue the new I-20 on the same SEVIS ID and you don't need to do anything else. Your visa does not need to be changed either.

  2. If you transfer to another university after a longer break, the SEVIS record is deactivated and you must apply to have it reactivated. You will need the old and the new I-20

  1. Open the SEVIS page via this link
  2. Select Check I-901 Status in the top right corner
  3. Enter your old SEVIS ID and your data
  4. Select Request transfer on the next page
  5. Account your information and enter new SEVIS ID below
  6. Click request transfer and wait until you receive an email confirming the transfer in the next few days.

Warning
Important:
You can only have the SEVIS record transferred free of charge within 5 months, otherwise it will be deactivated and you will have to pay the SEVIS fee again
