As an international student at a US University, you will need to carry sufficient health insurance. You will not be allowed to move into your dorms or practice and play for your team without proper insurance. This insurance will cover any sickness or accidents that are not directly related to athletics. 

Usually, each US university has its own health insurance plan in which you will need to enroll prior to your studies. However, in certain cases you may be allowed to waive the university insurance and provide your own insurance plan.

Before you enter the US and right after your commitment to your new university, clarify the insurance policy at your new university with your COACH:

Before you buy insurance on your own, ALWAYS compare the cost and benefits with the insurance offered by the university. IN MOST CASES, it is the most sensible thing to go with the insurance offered by the university. HOWEVER, if that plan is too expensive and NOT covered by your scholarship, you can look at other options.

World Trips offers insurance, which has been used by international students in the past. 

Be aware: If you want to buy your own insurance (for example World Trips), always look at the cost and benefits AND go through the insurance waiver process at your new university. ONLY when the university confirms your waiver, will you be allowed to use your insurance instead of the university insurance.

As american or international health insurance plans do not always cover every cost that might occur when you get treatment, we always recommend that you buy TRAVEL INSURANCE on top of the health insurance plan - no matter if you have the university insurance or your own.
